Board of Directors Bio

Stephen A. Albanese, MD

Dr. Stephen Albanese received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Bucknell University and MD from SUNY Buffalo College of Medicine. He completed orthopedic surgery residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY and pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario. He has been a member of the faculty of Upstate Medical University since 1986. He has been Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Orthopedic Surgery residency program director at Upstate since 2000. He clinically specializes in pediatric orthopedic surgery and the management of patients with spine deformities. Dr. Albanese has served as a member at large on the on the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Board of Directors. He has chaired the AAOS Committee on Evaluation, been a mentor in the leadership fellows program and served as a member of the AAOS Council on Education. He has served on the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) Board of Directors. He has chaired the POSNA Education Council and is currently the Chair of the POSNA Health Care Delivery Council. He has chaired the Scoliosis Research Society Morbidity and Mortality Committee. He has served as a member of the American Orthopaedic Association Academic Leadership Committee. He is past president of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is currently serving on its Board of Directors. He served seven years as a member of the Orthopaedic Surgery RRC. The final three years were as the RRC Chair.
