Physician Licensing and Certification

Graduates of residency and fellowship programs are prepared to take certification exams given by American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) specialty boards, AOA specialty boards, and other organizations. Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is conducted by ABMS member boards; Osteopathic Continuous Certification (OCC) is conducted by AOA certifying boards. Certification of individual physicians is not under the purview of the ACGME.
