Call for Abstracts

Call for Abstracts

The ACGME invites the graduate medical education community to submit abstracts for the Poster Reception at the 2018 Annual Educational Conference taking place March 1-4, 2018 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida. Program directors, coordinators, faculty members, and others involved in graduate medical education are encouraged to submit abstracts.


2018 Abstract Suggested Topics
Posters are accepted into three tracks. Submit only one abstract per track. If a topic is applicable to multiple tracks, choose the one that best suits the abstract. The tracks are as follows:

  1. General Submission
    Abstracts submitted to this track should focus on accreditation, education, assessment, and innovations in graduate medical education. Thirty abstracts will be selected in this track.

  2. Physician Well-Being
    Abstracts submitted to this track should focus on studies on physician well-being or a successful well-being initiative in a program or institution. Ten abstracts will be selected in this track.

  3. Clinical Learning Environment
    Abstracts submitted to this track should focus on innovations in the clinical learning environment, responses to feedback from Cycle 1 Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Program visits, collaboration to improve patient care and the clinical learning environment, and using the CLER Pathways to Excellence. Ten abstracts will be selected in this track.

Criteria for Selection:
Abstracts must include all sections to be considered

  1. Background: clearly articulated context for project of research study, including relevant literature

  2. Objective: substantive, clearly stated purpose of the project or research study

  3. Methods: clear description of how the project or research study was conducted and/or implemented, with sound and appropriate project/study design

  4. Results/Outcomes/Improvements: clear and unambiguous statement of what changed and how

  5. Significance/Implications/Relevance: implications of the project beyond the local setting

All accepted poster presenters must register for the conference. Please do not submit an abstract if your attendance at the Annual Educational Conference is questionable. Posters without at least one registered author will not be displayed.

Accepted poster presenters will be required to prepare a poster for the reception and to be available from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 to discuss their poster.

Please note: The ACGME does not endorse any products or services provided by outside vendors. Therefore, promotions or advertisements of any kind are not allowed at the conference. Discussion must be limited to desired operational solutions contained in the software with no mention of proprietary products.

Submission Process and Requirements

Submission Process:

  • Submit your abstract electronically using the form linked below.
  • E-mail questions to abstracts@acgme.org.
  • The deadline for abstract submissions is Friday, November 3, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. Central.
  • Notification of acceptance/rejection for poster presentation will be sent by e-mail the week of December 18, 2017. Communication regarding the abstract will be made with the submitting author only

Please Note: Only completed projects that show measurable results will be reviewed. Particular attention will be paid to abstracts related to the suggested topics.


Submission and Format Requirements for Abstracts:

  • Only abstracts submitted electronically by November 3, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. Central will be considered. No submissions will be accepted by mail or e-mail.
  • Abstracts must not exceed 500 words (one page), excluding title and authors.
  • No charts, tables, or graphs will be accepted.
  • All text should be typed as it should appear in print. If accepted, the abstract will be included in the ACGME Conference Mobile App.
  • In the online submission form, roll the mouse over a field if it is unclear, and instructions will appear.
  • Make the abstract title brief, but clearly indicate the nature of the study. Do not use abbreviations in the title.
  • List each presenter and his/her affiliation separately.

Organize the Text of the Abstracts as Follows:

  • Background
  • Objectives
  • Methods
  • Results/Outcomes/Improvements
  • Significance/Implications/Relevance

Poster Display Information

The poster board surface is approximately 6' wide by 4' high.

**Poster displays must be assembled on Thursday, March 1, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. All posters must be assembled by 2:00 p.m. Thursday and removed by 12:00 p.m. Saturday**

The ACGME will not ship back any posters remaining after 12:00 p.m. Saturday.

The Poster Reception is scheduled for Thursday, March 1 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Poster presenters are expected to be at their displays during this time.

How to Write an Abstract with Sample Abstract

How long should my abstract be?
Submitted abstracts must be under one page using Arial 10pt font and one-inch margins. Accepted abstracts will be posted in the Conference Mobile App. Each abstract receives only one page.

Do I need to register for the conference?
All presenters are required to register for the conference.

How will I know if my abstract is accepted?
The submitting author will be notified the week of December 18, 2017.

How big should the posters be?
The poster board surface is approximately 6' wide by 4' high.

When is the Poster Reception?
The Poster Reception is Thursday, March 1, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

When can I set up?
Poster presentations must be hung on Thursday, March 1 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

What if I need to make changes in the abstract?
Changes cannot be made after the submission deadline.

I am the second author. Will I be contacted?
All correspondence (primarily by e-mail) will be with the submitting author.

How do I receive the poster presenter conference rate?
Instructions will be provided with e-mail sent to accepted poster presenters.
