Dorothy S. Lane, MD, MPH, FACPM, is Distinguished Service Professor, Vice Chair and Director of the residency program in General Preventive Medicine & Public Health in the Department of Preventive Medicine, as well as the Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine. 

She received her MD degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and completed a residency in public health with the New York City Department of Health. Dr Lane has held several leadership positions including Chair of the American Board of Preventive Medicine, President of the American College of Preventive Medicine, and President of the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine.


She is also active in continuing medical education, including having served as a member of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education’s Board of Directors. Dr. Lane is a recipient of the ACGME Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award.  Since it’s inception in 1994, Dr. Lane has been Principal Investigator of the NIH Women’s Health Initiative Center at Stony Brook.
