CILE - Committee on Innovation in the Learning Environment
A Welcome from the Committee on Innovation in the Learning Environment
The Committee on Innovation in the Learning Environment (CILE) is charged with a range of efforts to foster high-quality learning and patient care in the settings where residents learn and practice. Within the CILE website the ACGME provides tools and information to help achieve this goal.
The recommendations on this website address five areas with the aim of advancing innovation and improvement in programs and institutions and in the accreditation process. The goal of these recommendations is to focus the ACGME’s accreditation activities on attributes that help create a better learning and patient care environment, and on ideas for improving and re-design the learning environment in ways that promote innovation in patient care, education and that are sensitive to residents’ dual role as learners and practitioners.
CILE offers information to residency programs and sponsoring institutions that will allow them to achieve the high standards needed to meet future challenges in graduate medical education and health care. This includes teaching the “basics” while extending learning to new horizons like the ACGME’s Learning Innovation and Improvement Project (LIIP), which studies institutional attributes that contribute to innovation and a high quality learning environment. We encourage you to review the innovative practice pages to learn what programs and institutions have accomplished. A more far-reaching goal is to explore ways to adapt the accreditation standards and processes to more effectively promote innovation and improvement in resident and fellow education.
Thank you for visiting the ACGME CILE homepage. We hope you will find the information helpful and encourage you to routinely access the site to see updates, including information on notable practices in the learning environment that will be updated frequently.
Your feedback is deeply appreciated in our effort to enhance this website, to build it into a resource for programs, institutions, faculty, residents and others wishing to innovate in graduate medical education. We invite you to send comments and suggestions about this site to CILEcomments@acgme.org
