Dr. Christopher Pack received his bachelor's degree from the University of California in San Diego and his master's and PhD in sociology from the University of California at Los Angeles. From 1976 to 1977 he was a research associate in the Department of Medicine at the University of Vermont doing an evaluation of the problem oriented medical information system. In 1977 he joined the Department of Pediatrics at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine where he served as a program evaluator and eventually director of the resident evaluation network. In 1981 he became associate director of medical education at the Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and acting director of medical education in 1983.
