ACGME Accreditation Field Representative
Joseph Campisano, PhD

Dr. Joseph Campisano received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana University, and his doctorate from the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh. His doctoral dissertation dealt with the identification of criteria affecting the transfer of didactic material to the clinical setting.

After serving in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967, Dr. Campisano held a number of teaching and training positions. From 1971 to 1976 he served as a personnel analyst in the Department of Public Welfare for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania serving at the Torrence and Holidaysburgh State Hospitals.

From 1976 to 1985 he served as director of training and development at the Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and from 1985 to 1988 as vice chairman and later acting chairman of the department of education and staff services at the same institution.Through that time he served as an educational consultant to the Commission on Accreditation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and as an educational consultant to several residency programs. Dr. Campisano has been an active member of the American Society for Training and Development, the American Society for Health Education and Training and the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania.


Dr. Campisano joined the Accreditation Field Staff of the ACGME in September 1988 and since that time has carried out site visits of more than 2,468 programs.
