Kristen B. Raines, MD

Kristen B. Raines, MD, is board certified in internal medicine and sub-board certified in endocrinology. She graduated summa cum laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and received her medical school training from the Vanderbilt University. She completed her internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Upon completing her graduate medical education, Dr. Raines held a number of teaching and administrative positions with the United States Army Medical Department.


She was the director of intern training and program director of the Transitional Year residency program at Tripler Army Medical Center, from1988 to1993. She then assumed the position of Chief of undergraduate and continuing medical education in the United States Army Health Professional Support Agency, Office of the Surgeon General. In 1995 she became the deputy director of the U.S. Army Medical Command’s Directorate of Medical Education and was promoted to Director in 1997 and held that position until she retired from military service in late 2004.


Dr. Raines has been active with a number of professional organizations including the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the Endocrine Society, the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education and the Society of Medical Consultants to the Armed Forces. Dr. Raines has also served as a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the military observer for the ACGME.


She became a member of the ACGME’s Accreditation Field Staff in October 2004. She has conducted 207 site visits in a variety of specialties.


Dr. Raines is married and resides in Alexandria, Virginia.
