Marguerite A. Hawkins, MD, MS

Dr. Hawkins is board certified in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health. She graduated from Old Dominion University and attended Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia on a Naval Health Professions Scholarship. She completed her internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD in 1990 and, subsequently served in a number of clinical, academic and administrative positions as a General Medical Officer with the Navy. In 1991 and 1994, she received Navy commendation medals for meritorious service related to contributions in medical education, and organizing/standardizing/executing/improving patient care.


From 1997-2006, Dr. Hawkins was affiliated with the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. While there, she obtained her M.S. in Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, completed her General Preventive Medicine and Public Health residency, served as Chief Resident, and was appointed Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director for the General Preventive Medicine/Public Health residency .Following a geographic move, Dr Hawkins was employed by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health as a Medical Epidemiologist but maintained her ties to the University of Maryland School of Medicine as Adjunct faculty. In 2005, she returned to employment in Baltimore, MD to assume the positions of Assistant Director for the Office of Environmental Health Coordination, Regulatory Affairs, and Public Health Residency; and Residency Program Director for the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Public Health/General Preventive Medicine residency program.


Dr. Hawkins has been actively involved in professional specialty societies and numerous administrative service activities at the institutional, local, state, and national levels including the Board of Directors for the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine and as a question author for the USMLE and American Board of Preventive Medicine Examinations.


Dr. Hawkins joined the ACGME as a site visitor in June of 2008.
