Program Directors (PD) "Virtual Handbook"

As Program Directors and Coordinators, you have great responsibility to develop, oversee and improve residency or fellowship educational programs, implement changes based on the current accreditation standards and prepare for accreditation site visits and review by the ACGME Review Committees (RRC). To assist with obtaining information related to these endeavors ACGME has developed a ‘Virtual Handbook', i.e., links to sections of the ACGME website that are very relevant to your work:

RRC Web Pages
  • The RRC web page contains specialty-specific information, including periodic updates (newsletters) about RRC activities, FAQs, staff members contact information by subject and accreditation activities, requirements, program information forms and a PD Guide to the common program requirements. The link is Review Committees located on the left sidebar of the ACGME homepage.
Program Directors and Coordinators
  • The Program Directors & Coordinators page includes information about Resident Duty Hours, Resident Survey, and much more. The link is located on the top of the ACGME home page.

The link is located on the left sidebar of the ACGME homepage.
In addition to the Review Committee staff, the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and Graduate Medical Education Committee of your sponsoring institution and your specialty-specific Program Directors Association are other important resources for you in this new role. You may wish to inform the association of your name and contact information.

If additional information in needed to answer specialty-specific questions, the Program Director and/or Coordinator should contact the Executive Director or other staff of the Review Committee for assistance. The program's 10 digit ID number should be included in all correspondence to the ACGME.
