ACGME announces 2010 Courage to Teach and Courage to Lead honorees
Annual awards honor outstanding program directors and distinguished designated institutional officials
CHICAGO, Sept. 25, 2009 – The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has chosen the 2010 Courage to Teach Award and Courage to Lead Award recipients.
The Courage to Teach Award – named after Parker J. Palmer, PhD, who wrote the Courage to Teach and other books on teaching and vocation – is presented annually to 10 notable program directors. The Courage to Lead Award is given annually to three outstanding designated institutional officials (DIOs), who are the officials responsible for directing all graduate medical education activities at a sponsoring institution.
The Courage to Lead and Courage to Teach awardees are invited to attend the 2010 ACGME Annual Educational Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, where they will be honored at an awards luncheon and presented with a plaque and check for $1,000. They will also be invited to attend a retreat next May at the Fetzer Institute in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
