Seven directors begin terms on ACGME Board |

CHICAGO, November 19, 2009 – At the fall meeting of the Board of Directors of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, seven directors began their terms on the Board, and four members completed their terms. The changes took effect at the conclusion of the September 14-15 meeting. |

William E. Rodak, PhD, named vice president for accreditation services, ACGME International |

CHICAGO, Nov 16, 2009 - William E. Rodak, PhD, has been named vice president for accreditation services, ACGME International, which is a new subsidiary organization that will accredit residency programs in other countries. Dr. Rodak will head the Department of Accreditation at ACGME International, serve as the expert on accreditation matters for sponsoring institutions in other countries, assist in the development of international accreditation standards, and lead the staff team that will support the ACGME International Committee on Accreditation. Dr. Rodak will report to Thomas J. Nasca, MD, MACP, chief executive officer of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and president of ACGME International. |

ACGME launches first journal devoted to GME

CHICAGO, Sept 29, 2009 – The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) is launching the first peer-reviewed journal dedicated entirely to the education of medical residents and fellows and the settings in which it occurs. The new journal, called the Journal of Graduate Medical Education, is of interest to the graduate medical education community including program directors, graduate medical education leaders, faculty, learners and researchers. |

ACGME chooses five residents for David C. Leach Award

CHICAGO, Sept 25, 2009 – The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has announced the recipients of the first annual David C. Leach Award. The new annual award honors notable residents who have improved learning, fostered innovation, increased communication, made processes more efficient, or advanced humanism in health care. The award is named in honor of the ACGME’s former chief executive officer, David C. Leach, MD, who retired in 2007. |

The new award recognizes outstanding program coordinators, who are administrators who assist program directors, help manage residency programs, and prepare documents needed for site visits. |
