Hurricane Katrina Inquiries
Many program directors and designated institutional officials have contacted ACGME to offer assistance to residents in programs affected by Hurricane Katrina, primarily in the form of temporary placement. These offers are greatly appreciated. It is too early to determine the needs of these institutions and programs in the affected areas. Indeed, communication is still almost impossible. The ACGME will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation as contact is re-established and more information slowly becomes available regarding the number of residents needing temporary placement, their specialty/subspecialty and the level of their training. Inquiries or offers of assistance should be communicated to the Executive Director of the respective Residency Review Committee or, in the case of the Institutional Review Committee, Patricia M.
