Nominators had this to say:

Through the residents and faculty members for whom Dr. Beeson has served as a mentor and a role model, Dr. Beeson’s values of sharing and contributing within the specialty continue to influence many others. The number of young as well as experienced faculty he has involved in the ongoing activities at Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD) and other EM professional organizations is endless. In his own program, he has provided guidance to students and residents for years. In addition to his scholarly contributions in the form of book chapters and editorial activities, his impact will be felt in emergency medicine through his countless national activities.

As a mentor, Dr. Beeson leads by example as evidenced by his exceptional patient care.  The recollection of him repeatedly saying “always remember to put the patient first” sticks with me on every shift I work and makes me a more compassionate physician.  It was his dedication to his patients that prompted him to develop the procedural competencies for high-risk procedures.  It is his dedication to his patients and residents that gives him the courage to stand up for his residents and his beliefs.  In any medical setting, there will be times when what is best for patients and/or residents becomes less of a focus.  Dr. Beeson has never faltered in his support of his goals and high standards, and this is a true testament to the depth of his character.
