About the System for Evaluation of Competencies in Residencies
The System for Evaluation of Competencies in Residencies - Urology is a competency-based resident evaluation system is now available to all urology residency programs as a web-based application at the ACGME website. These multiple evaluation tools were developed by urologists Christopher Amling and Curtis Powell at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and early versions of this system were used there. We cannot thank these two men enough for their hard work that made this system possible.
The evaluation system is provided to you free. The Urology RRC does not require urology residency programs to use this evaluation system.
This evaluation system is confidential and only those with passwords will be able to use your program's evaluations. The passwords are coded to ensure that only those with the "need to know" have access to a part, or the entire site. For example, residents can view only their own evaluations; program directors only will have access to all the evaluations submitted for the residents and the program.
Your program's evaluations will NOT be used or seen by the Urology RRC or its staff. Due to his/her responsibilities in maintaining the evaluation database, the ACGME Database Administrator will be the only person authorized to access all live evaluation data.
You can logon to the urology evaluation database by using your ADS logon id and password. Use the following web URL to access system or access through the ACGME website on the Data Collection Systems menu: https://www.acgme.org/secr/

Details regarding the evaluation forms follow:
Resident Evaluations:
Residents should be rated using these forms irrespective of their training level, rather than rating them against peers in the same year level. This will allow tracking of performance over the entire length of training and should permit the documentation of progressive improvement in performance over time. The following tools are enclosed:
Global Resident Competency Rating Form – This tool can be used to assess resident performance in all six competencies and is usually completed by appropriate faculty at the end of a resident rotation. In response to specific questions, residents are rated on a nine-point scale for each.
360 Degree Rating Form – This form is completed by any person in the resident’s sphere of influence and usually includes other physicians, nurses, clerical and ancillary staff. This tool assesses two competencies, Professionalism and Interpersonal and Communication Skills.
Operative Performance Rating Form – This tool is used to assess resident performance in specific urologic surgical cases. It is completed by faculty at the completion of the case and is a measure of surgical proficiency. Consider selecting the Urology “index” cases for this evaluation.
Observed Patient Encounter Rating Form – This tool is used to assess an encounter between a resident and patient in the outpatient clinic setting. It is best used to appraise a new patient evaluation by the resident and is completed by a faculty member who observes and critiques that encounter.
The following tools are designed to aid program administration:
Faculty Evaluation Form – This tool is used to assess faculty and is completed by residents.
Program Evaluation Form - This tool is used to assess the residency program and is completed by residents.
Duty Hours Survey - Residents may use this tool to provide information about the number of hours they have been on duty.
