The Call for Abstracts is closed for the 2021 ACGME Annual Educational Conference.


Each year the ACGME solicits abstract submissions to be presented as posters at its Annual Educational Conference. Below is key information for those considering submitting an abstract.

When does the Call for Abstracts open?

The Call for Abstracts opens in late August and closes early October each year. Dates will be announced in the ACGME’s weekly e-Communication and on www.acgme.org, as well as on the ACGME’s Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.

Who should submit an abstract?

Designated institutional officials (DIOs), program directors, coordinators, faculty members, residents, fellows, and others involved in GME are encouraged to submit abstracts.

What topics are you looking for?

Topics should focus on accreditation; education; assessment; well-being; diversity, equity, and inclusion; crisis management; current issues in medicine and medical education; and other GME-related research and innovations in the clinical learning environment.

What are the criteria for selection?

Abstracts must include the following to be considered:

  1. Contact information for each authorNote: Abstract judging and selection is a blind process. Individuals’ contact information will not be shared.
  2. At what stage is the research project? (planning stages/ongoing/completed)
  3. Submission title
  4. Background: clearly articulated context for project or research study, including relevant literature
  5. Objectives: substantive, clearly stated purpose of the project or research study
  6. Methods: clear description of how the project or research study was conducted and/or implemented, with sound and appropriate project/study design
  7. Results/Outcomes/Improvements: clear and unambiguous statement of what changed and how
  8. Significance/Implications/Relevance: implications of the project or research study beyond the local setting
  9. References (optional)

What is the poster format?

Posters will be displayed on a 6' wide by 4' high board and should be oriented in landscape format. Inclusion of charts, graphs, and images on posters for visual engagement is encouraged.

When are the posters presented?

The Marvin R. Dunn Poster Reception takes place during the opening reception on Thursday night. At least one author of an accepted abstract must be available to discuss the poster during the reception. Posters will be available for viewing throughout the conference to be viewed by attendees on their own time.

Do poster presenters need to register for the conference?

All poster presenters must register for the conference.
