Manuel C. Vallejo, MD, DMD
Dr. Manuel Vallejo currently serves as Professor and Associate Chair of Anesthesiology at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. His prior academic leadership roles include Director of obstetric anesthesia and the ACGME-accredited obstetric anesthesiology fellowship program at Magee-Women’s Hospital, UPMC (2005-2013); Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at West Virginia University (2013-2016); and Associate Dean and Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education at West Virginia University (WVU; 2016-2025).
A dedicated educator and nationally recognized academic leader, Dr. Vallejo has received numerous teaching and leadership honors. His awards include the University of Pittsburgh’s Excellence in Resident Clinical Teaching Award (2002, 2004, 2006); the Stephen C. Finestone Clinical Instructor of the Year Award (2002); the UPMC Award for Commitment and Excellence in Education, Research, and Service (2006); and the University of Pittsburgh Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award (2012). He served as President of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP; 2015-2016) and later received the SOAP Teacher of the Year Award (2019) and SOAP Mentoring Excellence Award (2025). He also received the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA)/Society for Education in Anesthesiology (SEA) Distinguished Educator Award (2020); WVU Anesthesiology Top 5 Teaching Awards (2019, 2021); WVU’s Chancellor’s Master Clinician Award (2023); and the ACGME Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Award (2024).
Dr. Vallejo has served on several national committees, including those of the ASA, SOAP, and the ACGME. He was Vice Chair (2020-2023) and Chair (2023-2025) of the ACGME Review Committee for Anesthesiology. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the ACGME Council of Review Committee Chairs and participates on the ACGME Common Program Requirements Task Force.
