Review Committee Executive Directors
Kathleen Zoppi, PhD
Dr. Kathy Zoppi is the Executive Director of the Institutional Review Committee.
She started her career in medical education at Bon Secours Hospital and Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, as they developed the first family medicine program there. She joined Indiana University in 1993 and taught behavioral science in the family medicine residency programs, served as the medical school communication competency director, led a fellowship program in underserved medicine, and supported development of statewide initiatives in communication training. She also taught in the School of Public Health.
In 2006, Dr. Zoppi moved to Community Health Network, working in residency education and as Senior Vice President, Chief Academic Officer, and designated institutional official, where she was responsible for education and research across the network. In addition to expanding graduate medical education programs, she helped develop structure for scholarly and clinical research operations, the IRB, and multiple specialty programs. She has served on the Board of the Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers, on the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Health Professions at Butler University, and was a founding member of the Indiana Health Advocacy Coalition, a collaboration supporting the development of medical-legal programs.
Dr. Zoppi is a fellow in the Academy of Communication in Healthcare. Her research interests include professionalism, communication, and medical student development as they prepare for residency and practice.
