ACGME Global Services
Advancing the ACGME Mission by working with global entities to enhance the quality of resident and fellow physicians’ education.
What is ACGME Global Services?
The ACGME established the Department of Global Services to advance the ACGME Mission globally by assisting non-US entities with post-graduate medical education (PGME) enhancement efforts through advisory, educational resources, training, and implementation support.
What Does ACGME Global Services Do?
ACGME Global Services provides tailored services in curriculum design, faculty development, system-level consultations, and guidance on accreditation processes and standards. This can mean:
- helping institutions and governments design, develop, and implement new PGME programs, including curriculum design, faculty training, and system structure guidance, whether or not they are pursuing accreditation.
- assisting entities, including national, regional, and institutional-level systems, that already have accreditation systems but wish to enhance their structure, standards, or effectiveness.
- providing customized training sessions and workshops based on the specific needs of a partner organization, including topics such as clinical teaching, faculty development, mentoring, assessment, and learner well-being.
- supporting countries and institutions at all stages, whether they have an established accreditor or are just beginning to explore accreditation.
- partnering with other health professions associations to address education and training needs beyond PGME.
What Does ACGME Global Services not Do?
ACGME Global Services, as a provider of tailored services to support development of PGME, does not:
- accredit PGME programs or institutions.
- certify individual medical graduates.
- assist with visa sponsoring or processing.
What Is the Difference Between ACGME Global Services and ACGME International?
ACGME Global Services and ACGME International (ACGME-I) are separate entities with distinct roles.
ACGME Global Services is a department of the ACGME that offers tailored advisory, educational, and implementational support to institutions and organizations outside the United States that are interested in the development, enhancement, or reform of PGME systems.
ACGME-I is an independent, not-for-profit accrediting body providing accreditation services to PGME programs and institutions outside of the US.
