The University of Washington (UW) and Seattle Children’s Hospital’s pediatric residency program in Seattle, Washington is one of four honorees receiving the ACGME’s Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award in 2022. Program director (through February 2022) and Associate Dean of Curriculum Dr. Heather McPhillips answered the ACGME’s questions about the outstanding measures this program has taken to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.
ACGME Honors Graduate Medical Education Community with Annual Awards
The ACGME this week again presented awards at its Annual Educational Conference, recognizing noteworthy achievements from a wide range of talented graduate medical education professionals. The awards included 26 individuals and three institutions.

Dr. Ashraf Mohamed El Ghul, is the designated institutional official (DIO) and Internal Medicine Residency Program Director at Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). His institution’s and program’s experience with ACGME International brought him to the 2019 ACGME Annual Educational Conference and we asked him to share his experience.

2020 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Awardee Gabriella (Gabey) Gosman, MD is the chief medical officer for UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital and the associate designated institutional official (DIO) for UPMC Medical Education. She has previously served as the residency program director for obstetrics and gynecology at UPMC Medical Education in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
