2021 David C. Leach Awardee Amanda Lezanski-Gujda, DO is the head of teledermatology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

2022 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Awardee Vance Sohn, MD, works in strategic operations for US Army Medical Command in the Office of the Surgeon General, US Army. Dr. Sohn specializes in general surgery and surgical oncology. 

2020 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Awardee Gabriella (Gabey) Gosman, MD is the chief medical officer for UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital and the associate designated institutional official (DIO) for UPMC Medical Education. She has previously served as the residency program director for obstetrics and gynecology at UPMC Medical Education in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Awardee John Patrick T. Co, MD, MPH is the designated institutional official at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

As a new academic year approaches, it is important to continue breaking the silence surrounding clinician burnout. During a highly emotional and personal panel discussion at the 2019 ACGME Annual Educational Conference in March, Dr. Nasca and colleagues from other national organizations in medicine discussed how burnout and self-doubt touched their lives. Influenced by those experiences and others throughout his career, Dr. Nasca has positioned the ACGME to help lead the charge to address physician well-being.

The ACGME recognizes and appreciates the heroic response of hospitals and physicians in the worsening COVID-19 pandemic in New York State. With that acknowledgement, the ACGME Common Program Requirements (Section VI.F.) remain in place nationally.
