Each year, the Annual Educational Conference is the venue for great community gathering, information and idea sharing, networking, inspiration, and more. It’s also where we celebrate the ACGME – and now ACGME International – awardees.

The ACGME is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s awards, who will be honored during the 2020 Annual Educational Conference February 27-29, 2020.

These new requirements that all accredited US residency and fellowship programs follow in preparing today's physicians for practice reinforce a culture of patient safety and physician well-being by focusing on patient-centered, team-based care.

At the 2021 ACGME Annual Educational Conference, Athena Gonzalez and her team presented their poster, Strategies for Optimizing Fit Testing for Residents and the Evolving Role of the Program Coordinator, about their work in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure residents were wearing properly sized and fitted masks and respirators, even as supplies changed.

Debra L. Dooley came to the ACGME 22 years ago, initially in an administrative role with the Review Committee for Internal Medicine. She retires today, after 10.5 years as the Director of Educational Activities, where she leads the team responsible for producing the ACGME’s educational programming, and most notably the Annual Educational Conference. We spent some time with her before she left, discussing her career, her mentors, her legacy, and the renaming of the Debra L. Dooley Program Coordinator Excellence Award.

The proposed revisions to Section VI of its Common Program Requirements are open for public comment over the next 45 days. The Requirements provide uniform standards for all accredited US residency and fellowship programs.
