2020 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Awardee Edwin L. Zalneraitis, MD is the pediatric residency program director at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

A panel of institutional representatives and ACGME leaders discussed the successes and challenges of actively involving residents in patient safety improvement as part of the ACGME’s Pursuing Excellence in Clinical Learning Environments (Pursuing Excellence) initiative. The panel convened at a sunset session at the 2019 ACGME Annual Educational Conference.

The 2019 ACGME Annual Educational Conference offers multiple sessions focused on osteopathic medicine and accreditation and numerous opportunities for attendees from all corners of graduate medical education to learn and connect.

Juanita Braxton, PhD is the Administrative Manager for Surgical Education at University of California Davis Health in Sacramento, California. She is also a charter member of the ACGME’s Coordinator Advisory Group, which was formed in 2016 to serve as a consultative body to the ACGME administration concerning coordinator, GME, learning environment, and accreditation matters. Dr. Braxton presented PC005, Inspiring Minds – Cultivating Success, at the Coordinator Forum during the pre-conferences to the Annual Educational Conference Thursday, March 1.

2021 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Awardee Wilma F. Bergfeld, is the director of the dermatopathology fellowship, a senior dermatologist, and emeritus director, dermatopathology in the departments of dermatology and pathology at the Cleveland Clinic.

The 2020 Annual Educational Conference wrapped up with an enriching and inspiring day of sessions.

Outstanding medical skills are not the same as leadership skills, and many newly appointed chief residents find a gap between their education and training and their new leadership role. To bridge that gap, the ACGME offers the Leadership Skills Training Program for chief residents.
