All OVMC Residents Successfully Placed into New Programs

The ACGME is pleased to report that all 32 residents from Ohio Valley Medical Center (OVMC) in Wheeling, West Virginia have accepted offers to transfer to other ACGME-accredited programs where they will continue their education. OVMC was a participating site for ACGME-accredited emergency medicine and internal medicine residency programs under the institutional sponsorship of Mountain State Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institutions (MSOPTI).

ACGME accreditation of both residency programs was voluntarily withdrawn effective today, and the ACGME closed the position database it had opened to assist residents in identifying transfer opportunities. The ACGME is grateful for the response from the GME community, which provided substantial assistance to OVMC residents seeking transfers to other programs.

CMS Clarification on Transferring Funding and Program Attendance

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published the Medicare Fact Sheet on Displaced Residents Due to Program or Hospital Closure to aid programs in understanding cap adjustments that allow CMS funding to follow displaced residents to hospitals where they will continue their residency education.
