Strengthening Osteopathic Recognition: Insights and Innovation at the #ACGME2026
Developed in partnership with the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME), the ACGME/AOGME Osteopathic Recognition Full-Day Course at the 2026 ACGME Annual Educational Conference presents a valuable opportunity. This course is intended to meet the needs of programs with Osteopathic Recognition and programs that may consider applying for Osteopathic Recognition.
Who Should Attend
The course is designed for Directors of Osteopathic Education (DOEs), designated institutional officials (DIOs), faculty members, program directors, program coordinators, administrators/managers, and other graduate medical education department personnel. It’s also for new as well as seasoned attendees. Those who have attended in the past will experience new content and continue strengthening connections across the osteopathic community.
Course Overview
This Full-Day Course, part of the series held on Thursday of the conference and included with attendees’ registration, offers deep, actionable insights into osteopathic facets of graduate medical education. General sessions will allow participants to hear and learn directly from DOEs, osteopathic faculty members, and designated osteopathic residents from programs with ACGME Osteopathic Recognition.

- Artificial Intelligence, Real Education: The Future of Osteopathic Education and Training, with John Casey, DO and Kyle Sherwin, DO
This session explores current and emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools that enhance learning, personalize education, and even support the teaching of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT)—without losing the human touch. From diagnosing disease to teaching muscle energy, AI is reshaping how education and training of osteopathic residents and fellows.
- Coaching the Master Adaptive Learner: Building Adaptive Osteopathic Physicians, with Stacey Pierce-Talsma, DO, MS, MEdL, FNAOME
This session will explore the integration of coaching and the Master Adaptive Learner (MAL) framework as powerful approaches to support competency-based medical education and pursuit of Osteopathic Recognition. Participants will learn how coaching can foster adaptability, self-regulation, and lifelong learning in residents.
- A Roadmap to Success: Preparing for an Osteopathic Initial Recognition Site Visit, with Kirsten Johnsen Martin, DO
This session offers practical guidance for preparing for a successful ACGME Osteopathic Recognition Initial Recognition site visit. Drawing from experience, participants will gain tools, timelines, and strategies to ensure readiness and sustain a high-quality learning environment.
- An Introduction to the ADS Annual Update for Osteopathic Recognition, with ACGME Executive Director Tiffany Moss, MBA and Joanne Baker, DO
This session will give attendees an overview of the Osteopathic Recognition information required in the Accreditation Data System (ADS) Annual Update and provide best practices for completion. - Osteopathic Recognition: Where Are We Today?, with ACGME Senior Vice President, Osteopathic Accreditation Lorenzo Pence, DO
This session will provide an update on ACGME-accredited programs with Osteopathic Recognition.
