2023 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Awardee Dr. Antoinette Spevetz is the designated institutional official (DIO) at Cooper University Health Care.

For the first time since 2012, the ACGME today presented the John C. Gienapp Distinguished Service Award to Timothy C. Flynn, MD, FACS. The award is named for Dr. John Gienapp, who was the ACGME’s Executive Director for 19 years. Dr. Gienapp made several important contributions to GME and ACGME accreditation, and when he retired this award was established in his honor to recognize those who, like himself, dedicated themselves to a career in graduate medical education and made outstanding contributions to residency education and ACGME activities in a variety of ways.

The Version 2.0 of CLER Pathways to Excellence: Expectations for an Optimal Clinical Learning Environment to Achieve Safe and High-Quality Patient Care, has been published.

Nine Pathway Leaders will form a Patient Safety Collaborative focused on creating and testing a framework for residents and fellows to engage with their learning environments in promoting a culture of safety.

These deserving winners will be honored during the 2024 ACGME Annual Educational Conference, which is scheduled for March 7-9, 2024, in Orlando, Florida.

The ACGME’s and medical community’s prioritization of physician well-being made the issue a central of theme at the 2018 Annual Educational Conference. Gender-Specific Challenges in Burnout, a session led by speakers Carol Bernstein, MD and Kimberly Templeton, MD, explored a variety of factors that contribute specifically to the risk of burnout and differences between what men and women face in this arena.

In a more personal President’s Plenary at #ACGME2024, and his last as ACGME President and CEO, Dr. Thomas Nasca discussed many issues facing graduate medical education, all viewed through the lens of trust.

Results recently published from a national survey of more than 6,000 graduate medical education (GME) program and institutional coordinators, led by members of the ACGME Well-Being team and published in Academic Medicine, reveal concerning levels of depression, anxiety, and burnout—underscoring the urgent need for greater support and recognition of these essential professionals.
