Lynne Kirk, MD, MACP will join the ACGME to lead efforts related to the review of residency and fellowship programs. She will begin this new position in September.

The newly organized and expanded 2015-2016 Data Resource Book shows the largest number of newly-accredited ACGME programs in over a decade, driving an increase in future US physicians who will serve the nation's health care needs.

On the heels of the ACGME's Second Symposium on Physician Well-Being, JGME released its December 2016 issue featuring the latest research and commentary on well-being in residency, developing emotional intelligence, and more.

Following steady growth in ACGME-accredited programs over the last decade, the 2018-2019 academic year showed the largest annual increase of programs to 11,685, up 4.2 percent from the previous academic year.

The ACGME released its 2016-2017 Data Resource Book, which includes data on the size, scope, and distribution of graduate medical education in the US. Data shows residents in ACGME pipeline programs increased 20 percent over the last 10 years.

The ACGME’s and medical community’s prioritization of physician well-being made the issue a central of theme at the 2018 Annual Educational Conference. Gender-Specific Challenges in Burnout, a session led by speakers Carol Bernstein, MD and Kimberly Templeton, MD, explored a variety of factors that contribute specifically to the risk of burnout and differences between what men and women face in this arena.
