The ACGME welcomes Mary E. Klingensmith, MD as the Senior Vice President, Accreditation. Dr. Klingensmith will oversee the accreditation process and standards for ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs across the country.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) recently released its summary report of the Pursuing Excellence in Clinical Learning Environments (Pursuing Excellence) Pathway Leaders Patient Safety Collaborative.

The ACGME plans to launch the next phase of ACGME Cloud in mid-April, marking continued progress in the organization’s Digital Transformation journey for graduate medical education.

Associate Program Director Kimberly Collins, MD of Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in Saint Petersburg, Florida set out to see how simulating conversations about social determinants of health (as opposed to in-class learning or immersion-based training) affected a resident’s or fellow’s ability to broach and explore these complex, often sensitive, subjects with patients and their parents. Her results are recorded in her poster: Improving Resident Comfort with Discussing Social Determinants of Health through Simulation.

Dr. Hedy Wald of Boston Children’s Hospital-Harvard Medical School and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University was a first-time ACGME Annual Educational Conference attendee as a result of acceptance of her poster, Faculty Videos – An Innovation within Residency Resilience Skills Programs at Two Institutions, for presentation at the Poster Session. An avid social networker, she introduced herself to us at the Twitter Board on Thursday morning before the pre-conferences, and we continued the conversation throughout and after the conference. We asked Dr. Wald about her experience as a poster presenter and first-time attendee of our conference.

These resources were compiled to support local efforts to improve resident, fellow, and faculty member well-being and help physicians in distress as part of the ACGME's commitment to promoting physican well-being.

A recent study published in JAMA Surgery revealed that “ACGME Milestone ratings of “graduating vascular surgeons may be predictive of those surgeons’ risk-adjusted patient outcomes in their early career following a common vascular operation.”
