Making a Difference at the 2023 ACGME Annual Educational Conference

November 3, 2022

It’s time to come together! The ACGME is pleased to invite the graduate medical education (GME) community to the 2023 Annual Educational Conference at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, February 23-25, 2023.

This conference’s theme is Meaning in Medicine: Making a Difference. It is intended to reflect the many challenges faced by the GME community while navigating continued uncertainty and to celebrate GME’s—and health care’s—exceptional accomplishments during these historic times. The theme is an important reminder for each of us to build meaning in medicine as we care for ourselves, and to make a difference as we care for others.

As physicians, educators, leaders, and medical professionals, the GME community is in a unique and central position to advocate for and implement high-quality, equitable patient care and its positive impacts on society. The past three years have led to noteworthy scientific advances and examples of the strength of the human spirit, while spotlighting significant health care inequities. The ACGME looks forward to gathering the GME community to learn, discover, and challenge each other with a renewed focus on making a difference.

As always, the conference’s content will include sessions on topics such as ACGME accreditation and initiatives; preparing residents/fellows for practice; successful strategies to achieve best practices; diversity, equity, and inclusion; professional development; well-being; crisis management; assessment; and other impactful and forward-thinking learning initiatives and subjects. It will also facilitate networking, socializing, wellness activities, and more.

Over three days, the conference will host thousands of individuals from across GME, with opportunities to engage and connect through educational sessions, lively networking events, and exciting activities. This conference, the ACGME’s signature learning event, will offer a breadth and depth of content for those who are passionate about education and collaboration.

For the 2023 conference, the ACGME has replaced the Pre-Conferences with Full-Day Courses, one each catering to designated institutional officials, program directors, coordinators, faculty members, and those interested in learning more about Osteopathic Recognition and education. Unlike with the former Pre-Conferences, the cost for these Full-Day Courses is included in the conference registration fee.

As mentioned previously, this conference is always an opportunity to build and expand your GME network. Networking opportunities include:

  • The Marvin R. Dunn Welcoming Poster Reception and Exhibitor Kick-Off, which will feature more than 75 posters highlighting the latest in research and innovations in GME.
  • The Exhibit Hall, which will feature live country music and a wide range of vendors offering the latest information on technology and educational software, simulation technology, and patient management solutions.
  • For the first time, the ACGME will host a Coordinator Networking Reception following the Coordinator Forum Full-Day Course. This reception is open to all institutional and program coordinators looking to connect with others in the coordinator community.
  • A Toast on the Terrace will immediately follow the Closing Plenary, allowing participants to mingle with colleagues, and ACGME leaders and staff members, and to reflect on the conference while celebrating the connections they have made.
  • Throughout the conference, the ACGME Hub in the Exhibit Hall will allow attendees to meet and network with ACGME staff members from a variety of ACGME departments, divisions, and initiatives.
  • Badges and ribbons to allow you to quickly connect to like-minded attendees.
  • A valuable mentor/mentee program to give you the chance to help others, to move your career forward, and to contribute to the growth of the GME community as a whole.

The ACGME has also planned wellness and well-being activities, family-friendly activities, and a hands-on charitable activity with Second Harvest Food Bank. And the Nashville scene is world famous for music and dining—don’t forget to build in time to explore!

From in-depth sessions to inspiring plenaries to career-building networking, this is the year to join your colleagues at the largest GME conference in the world.

Registration for the 2023 ACGME Annual Educational Conference will open in December. To be alerted as soon as registration opens, giving you maximum flexibility in session and event selection, add your name to the notification list now.
