Celebrating the Professionals Who Make GME Possible!

July 31, 2026

Observed each year on the third Friday in August, GME Professionals Day was established to recognize the program directors, administrators, designated institutional officials, associate/assistant deans, and others who work to optimize resident and fellow training across the US. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those that  are dedicated to developing, leading, managing and supporting graduate medical education (GME).

From guiding accreditation and program operations to coordinating educational experiences, advising learners, and fostering institutional excellence, GME professionals help to shape an environment in which residents and fellows can thrive. Their work often takes place behind the scenes, but is essential to the success of education and training programs and the physicians they prepare for impactful careers.

Join Us
The ACGME encourages you to take time on August 21 to show your appreciation, recognize a colleague’s accomplishments, and say “thank you” to the professionals around you who help learners, faculty members, and institutions succeed every day. From a personal note to a department-wide acknowledgment, every gesture is meaningful. Also, please consider taking it one step further by sharing your messages of appreciation on social media to spotlight the individuals and teams who have made a difference in your institution and learning community.

Together, we can make GME Professionals Day a meaningful tradition that honors the people who make GME possible. We will be sharing posts on the ACGME’s X, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts and look forward to engaging with the community throughout the day!
