Bringing Culinary Medicine into GME: Explore the Nutrition-Focused Full-Day Course at #ACGME2027

November 6, 2026

While many conference sessions focus on presentations and discussion, the newest Full-Day Course added to the ACGME Annual Educational Conference lineup allows participants to experience culinary medicine firsthand.

Up to 80 participants will spend half of the day in didactic learning and half of the day at an off-site teaching kitchen, where they will engage directly in hands-on culinary medicine training. Transportation will be provided, making it easy for attendees to take part in this immersive experience. The “Cooking Up Competence Full-Day Course: A Teaching Kitchen Approach to Nutrition in GME” is part of the ACGME’s ongoing work to support the integration of nutrition education into graduate medical education (GME).

The course’s unique format will give participants the opportunity to see how teaching kitchens function in practice, and to experience for themselves the culinary medicine model being used in educational settings across the country. Rather than simply learning about nutrition education in a didactic format only, attendees will participate in experiential education and training that can be adapted for residency and fellowship programs of all sizes.

Learn from National Leaders in Culinary Medicine
Attendees will hear from experts who are shaping and implementing culinary medicine programs across the country, including:

  • Olivia Thomas, MS, RDN, LDN, Director of Nutrition Innovation and Implementation at Boston Medical Center
  • Nate Wood, MD, MHS, Chef, DipABLM, DABOM, Director of Culinary Medicine at Yale New Haven Health Teaching Kitchen
  • Christina Badaracco, MPH, RDN, LDN, Health care consultant, author, and founder of CB Health Strategies
  • Jaclyn Albin, MD, CCMS, DipABLM, Executive Director of the Culinary Medicine Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center

The speakers will share lessons from implementing culinary medicine programs in teaching kitchens and clinical, academic, and community settings.

Practical Strategies for GME Leaders
The course will also explore how experiential nutrition education can support physician well-being, while helping future physicians develop skills that improve patient counseling and health outcomes.

By the end of the course, participants will understand how teaching kitchens can serve as a platform for nutrition education and will be able to identify opportunities to integrate culinary medicine into their own GME programs.

For program leaders seeking innovative ways to enhance their curricula, this course offers practical tools, proven approaches, and a rare opportunity to experience culinary medicine firsthand.
