NEW! ACGME Requirements Reformatting Update
As the ACGME announced in February, as part of its digital transformation efforts, all ACGME Requirements documents have been reformatted. As of July 1, 2025, the reformatted requirements will take effect and the ACGME will no longer use the roman numeral outline structure historically in place.
As a reminder, the content of the Requirements is not changing, just the formatting and numbering structure, and the ACGME is providing crosswalk documents mapping old reference numbers to new ones for each set of Requirements. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), applications, and related materials will also be updated in the coming months.
Access reformatted Requirements and associated crosswalks, FAQs, and applications on the respective Common Program Requirements, Specialties, Osteopathic Recognition, Sponsoring Institution-Based Fellowships, Non-Standard Training Recognition, Combined Programs, and Institutional Applications and Requirements pages of the ACGME website.
Additionally, a modification was made to the ACGME competencies section (4.4.-4.5.) in the reformatted Common Program Requirements and all specialty-/subspecialty-specific Program Requirements to clarify that Patient Care and Procedural Skills in a single competency. These updates are reflected in the reformatted Program Requirements and changes are indicated in red font in the associated crosswalk documents that are posted on the respective Common Program Requirements and Specialty Program Requirements, FAQs, and Applications pages. The supporting materials will be updated in the coming months.
NEW! Selected Topics Across Program Requirements Updated
The Selected Topics Across Program Requirements documents for Coordinator Dedicated Time, Core Faculty Dedicated Time, Program Leadership Dedicated Time, Number of Faculty, Program Director Qualifications, Resident/Fellow Scholarly Activity, Independent Practice, Direct Supervision Using Telecommunication, and Faculty Qualifications have been updated to reflect the specialty-/subspecialty-specific Program Requirements in effect as of July 1, 2025. All current Selected Topics Across Program Requirements documents can be found on the Institutional Applications and Requirements page of the website, under the "Selected Topics Across Program Requirements" heading.

Evaluating Teaching Health Center Planning and Development: Unlocking and Sustaining the Full Potential of the Teaching Health Center Program
Emily M. Hawes, PharmD, BCPS, CPP; Mukesh Adhikari, MPH; Jacob Rains, MPH; et al.
This study examined the outcomes of the Teaching Health Center Planning and Development program, which aims to increase access to primary and behavioral health care by expanding GME in underserved, community-based settings. Findings show that the program has established a significant number of new teaching health center residency programs in counties with high Medicaid eligibility and mental health provider shortages.
Stuart Slavin, MD, MEd; Julie Beckerdite, MBA; April L. McGuire, MMHPE, C-TAGME; et al.
This study highlights the significant stressors faced by GME program coordinators and outlines seven key intervention areas—including workload management, professional development, supportive relationships, and self-advocacy—that can improve coordinator well-being and job satisfaction. The authors emphasize that institutional strategies and culture shifts are essential to retain coordinators and sustain a healthy, effective GME workforce.
Anna Ketan Shah, MD; Paul O’Rourke, MD, MPH; Colleen Christmas, MD
The authors of this New Idea study piloted a "Whole Person Care" clinical note template to help resident physicians use the electronic health record to better understand and address patients’ goals, values, and social determinants of health. Preliminary results suggest potential improvements in physician well-being and meaning in work, highlighting the need for streamlined templates to enhance future adoption.
