NEW! Journal of Graduate Medical Education Articles of the Week
William B. Weeks, MD, PhD, MBA; Mayana Pereira, PhD, MS; Juan M. Lavista Ferres, PhD, MS
Using publicly available 2023 compensation and learner demographic data, this study found a strong inverse association between the proportion of female learners in a specialty and that specialty’s average annual physician compensation. Specifically, each one-percent increase in female representation among learners was associated with decrease in average specialty income, accounting for much of the explainable variance across specialties.
Fatemah Qasem, MBBCh, KBA, MMEd; Arif Al Areibi, MBBCh, MSc, FRCPC
This article describes Kuwait’s experience adapting Canada’s Competence by Design model for post-graduate medical education, highlighting the significant challenges posed by limited preexisting educational infrastructure, heterogeneous faculty and learner backgrounds, and differences in health care systems. Through intensive faculty development, international mentorship, standardized assessment frameworks, and strategic use of simulation, programs were able to align local education and training environments with competency-based medical education (CBME) principles.
