NEW! ACGME Introduces ACGME Cloud Accreditation
The ACGME is pleased to announce the latest development in its digital transformation journey, ACGME Cloud Accreditation, a new product in the ACGME Cloud platform designed to provide a more efficient, streamlined experience for accreditation and recognition activities across the graduate medical education (GME) community. Expected to launch in July 2027, it will replace the Accreditation Data System (ADS) and provide a more unified, user-friendly experience while maintaining the core accreditation and recognition functions and processes that users rely on today.

WEDNESDAY! Capture the Power of Mentorship - Arts and Humanities in Medicine Photo Contest
The ACGME invites members of the GME community to participate in the Arts and Humanities in Medicine photography contest entitled, “Finding Meaning in Medicine: Mentoring Moments.” Programs are encouraged to share this opportunity with residents and fellows. Deadline for submissions is this Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Selected works will be featured at the 2027 ACGME Annual Educational Conference.
The ACGME seeks powerful, creative images that reflect the many ways mentoring shapes learning, growth, and connection in GME. Whether candid or thoughtfully staged, submitted photographs can tell the story of guidance, support, and shared purpose across the GME community.

TODAY! Pediatric Subspecialty Survey
The Review Committee for Pediatrics is preparing to begin the major revision process for the pediatrics subspecialty Program Requirements, with an anticipated effective date of July 1, 2029. The Committee recognizes that this timeline differs from the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP)’s timeline for its new competency-based medical education model for certification. ACGME and Review Committee leadership are in communication with the ABP’s leadership to discuss options that would allow fellows starting in July 2028 to pursue a two-year pathway toward ABP certification, before the revised Program Requirements take effect.
The Review Committee is seeking a high level of community input throughout the revision process, including through a survey and a summit with representatives from pediatrics and pediatrics subspecialty organizations. Feedback from the survey and summit will guide requirement development. A draft of the proposed new Program Requirements is expected to be posted for public review and comment in late 2027, prior to finalization by the Review Committee and approval by the ACGME Board of Directors.

Update on Major Revision of Requirements for Emergency Medical Services
The Review Committee for Emergency Medicine appreciates the valuable feedback provided by the community during the open review and comment period for the major revision of the Program Requirements for Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Due to the upcoming changes that will be necessitated by the major revision of the Common Program Requirements, the major revision of the Program Requirements for EMS will be delayed by approximately one year. It is anticipated that the revisions would not go into effect before July 2028. Accordingly, a second review and comment period may be necessary to facilitate the integration of the new Common Program Requirements framework and subsequent requirement adjustments. Further announcements will be made as this project progresses.

Topic: Establishing Resident Experiences in Medically Underserved Areas: A Program Perspective
In this webinar, participants will learn:
- how accredited programs can partner with rural and underserved sites to expand training opportunities;
- accreditation, operational, financial, and partnership considerations; and,
- practical strategies for developing successful collaborations that benefit residents/fellows, GME programs, and communities.
Many areas in the US face physician shortages, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Research demonstrates that where physicians complete their GME is a strong predictor of where they ultimately practice. Existing residency and fellowship programs play an important role in addressing physician workforce needs by establishing education and training experiences in rural and underserved settings.
1.25 CME credit hours will be available for this activity.

Faculty Development Needs Assessment
The ACGME is conducting an assessment to better understand the faculty development needs and interests of current and potential faculty members working in rural and underserved communities. The results will inform development of a virtual faculty development program focused on practical skills for teaching, supervising, assessing, and supporting medical students, residents, and fellows in rural and underserved clinical settings.

Creating a Summary Statement Microlearning Module
The recently updated Faculty Development Toolkit, available in Learn at ACGME, includes a variety of easy-to-access microlearning modules. The e-Communication will spotlight each of these over the next several weeks.
The Summary Statement microlearning explains how to go from making observations to synthesizing those observations into a rating or a judgement of the learner’s ability.

REGISTER NOW! Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment Course
Registration for Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment is now open for the November 2026 session.
This six-day course in Chicago, Illinois is highly interactive, using multiple learning approaches combined with systems thinking to help participants build effective programs of assessment for their residency or fellowship.
Participants will learn to:
- apply outcomes- and competency-based education principles in GME;
- strengthen assessment practices, tools, and decision-making quality;
- enhance Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee effectiveness and use longitudinal data to support learners;
- deliver effective feedback and support struggling learners; and,
- develop and implement an action plan for program improvement.
