GME professionals with expertise, insights, or innovations that can benefit their colleagues are encouraged to submit session proposals for the 2027 conference.
Accepted sessions will be presented at the conference, taking place February 25-27, 2027 in San Antonio, Texas.
The Submission Portal will close Thursday, June 11 at 5:00 p.m.

NEW! ADS Annual Update Schedule
The Accreditation Data System (ADS) Annual Update for the 2026-2027 Academic Year will be collected between July and September 2026, and Sponsoring Institutions and programs will receive an initial notification email at the beginning of the reporting window noting all Annual Update requirements and their respective deadlines. Each Annual Update timeframe will appear by July 1 in the Sponsoring Institution's or program's profile in ADS, in the Important Dates column on the right-hand side.

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation January Meeting Canceled
The Review Committee will not meet in January 2027, and the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation section of the ACGME website has been updated to reflect the revised meeting schedule. Sponsoring Institutions with programs planning to submit new applications should be aware of the next two meeting agenda closing dates: July 1, 2026 (for September 2026 review) and February 8, 2027 (for April 2027 review).

Joint Surgery-Complex General Surgical Oncology Pathway
The Review Committee for Surgery will consider proposals for joint surgery-complex general surgical oncology (JS-CGSO) programs, a pathway leading to certification eligibility in both general surgery and complex general surgical oncology. Leveraging the Rural Health Transformation Program for GME Workforce Development Webinar Recording Available

Continuing Education Credit

Workplace-Based Assessment Microlearning Module
The recently updated Faculty Development Toolkit, available in Learn at ACGME, includes a variety of easy-to-access microlearning modules. The e-Communication will spotlight each of these over the next several weeks.
The Rationale for Workplace-Based Assessment microlearning session highlights the importance of direct observation, patient-centered communication, and the impact of assumptions about abilities, providing the foundation that leads to deliberate practice and mastery learning.

The Development and Implementation of Administrative Time to Improve Resident Physician Compliance

In studies conducted on physician burnout, physicians reported that time spent on administrative tasks led to increased frustration and lower levels of career satisfaction. The authors of this New Idea implemented proctored administrative time to increase the compliance rate of resident administrative task completion, reduce the administrative burden on resident physicians, and improve the well-being of resident physicians through organizing and supporting completion of tasks during working hours.
