The 2024 ACGME Annual Educational Conference is an indispensable opportunity to come together and network with peers. Myriad functions allow conference attendees to meet colleagues from across the country and the world and to learn first-hand about innovations, improvements, and challenges in graduate medical education (GME).

But the conference also provides a valuable chance to meet and get to know another group of people who are truly dedicated to improving the GME community in every way possible—the staff members and leaders of the ACGME. Here are some ways to engage with representatives of the ACGME at the 2024 ACGME Annual Educational Conference.

In the ACGME Hub
The ACGME Hub, centrally located in the Exhibit Hall, is a great opportunity to hear from and talk to ACGME staff members. Various ACGME departments, initiatives, and programs have tables that are staffed during Exhibit Hall hours. Groups in the ACGME Hub include ACGME data collection systems; the Clinical Learning Environment Review Program; the Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Distance Learning; well-being initiatives; the Accreditation Field Representatives; the Journal of Graduate Medical Education (JGME); Medically Underserved Areas and Populations; the Milestones; and a shared presence of ACGME Global Services and ACGME International (ACGME-I). Stop by and ask whatever is on your mind: How I can get involved with JGME? What opportunities are available to volunteer with the ACGME to strengthen my professional network and improve GME? What’s new in international accreditation? This is your chance to ask specific ACGME-related questions and get direct answers from the source.

During Presentations
You can see and hear from ACGME staff members in sessions throughout the conference, from the Full-Day Courses to the Closing Plenary. More than 65 ACGME staff members will be presenting, and almost 30 percent of conference sessions include at least one ACGME speaker.

This year there will also be two important opportunities to hear from and engage directly with ACGME President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas J. Nasca, MD, MACP. Be sure to attend the President’s Plenary on Friday morning, at which Dr. Nasca will share insights on what in his view are some of the more pressing matters facing the field of medicine and the ACGME. Additionally, this year’s Closing Plenary is "Conversations with the CEO.” In this unique fireside chat setting, Dr. Nasca will engage with conference attendees in a session dedicated to answering their questions on important topics or concerns related to the current and future state of GME.

For those interested in international accreditation and broad global GME issues, ACGME and ACGME-I staff members will present three sessions:

  • International PGME Partnerships to Support Training Physicians into the Future
  • The Clinical Learning Environment in the Global ACGME International Community
  • Update on International Accreditation from the ACGME-I Team

Attend any or all of these sessions to get updates and meet these staff members in person.

In the Halls!
"Meaning in Medicine” is more than a theme. You’ll find that ACGME staff members at the conference are approachable, knowledgeable, and dedicated to helping make every conference attendee’s experience meaningful, rewarding, and valuable. As you walk the halls, look for badge ribbons indicating ACGME staff members, and don’t hesitate to stop any of us to ask a question—if they don’t know the answer, they will know how to find the individual who does!

As the Conference Closes
The annual Toast on the Terrace with ACGME Leadership – immediately following the Closing Plenary – presents one final opportunity to meet informally with ACGME leaders and staff members, as well as all conference attendees. It’s a chance to celebrate the end of another successful and meaningful conference, and to reinforce new connections. ACGME representatives will be eager to hear your thoughts about topics raised during the conference, to answer questions that may have occurred to you during sessions and discussions, and to discuss your ideas.

We invite you to review the conference schedule in detail for more information about ACGME staff presentations and networking opportunities. Registration is open, so make your plans today! We look forward to seeing and connecting with you in March!
