The ACGME invites members of the GME community to participate in the Arts and Humanities in Medicine photography contest entitled, “Finding Meaning in Medicine: Mentoring Moments.” Programs are encouraged to share this opportunity with residents and fellows.
Selected works will be featured at the 2027 ACGME Annual Educational Conference.
The ACGME seeks powerful, creative images that reflect the many ways mentoring shapes learning, growth, and connection in GME. Whether candid or thoughtfully staged, submitted photographs can tell the story of guidance, support, and shared purpose across the GME community.

As part of the Common Program Requirements major revision process now underway, the Common Program Requirements Major Revision Task Force seeks the perspectives of the GME community on the Common Program Requirements for fellowships.

This survey seeks input from a wide variety of roles on issues relevant to fellow education, including program leadership, faculty qualifications, independent practice, scholarly activity, evaluation, quality and safety, supervision, and professionalism.

The ADS Annual Update for the 2026-2027 Academic Year timeframe appears in Sponsoring Institutions' and programs' profiles in ADS, in the "Important Dates" column on the right-hand side.
The Annual Update will be collected between July and September 2026, and Sponsoring Institutions and programs will receive an initial notification email at the beginning of the reporting window noting all Annual Update requirements and their respective deadlines.

Pediatric Subspecialty Survey
The Review Committee for Pediatrics is preparing to begin the major revision process for the pediatrics subspecialty Program Requirements, with an anticipated effective date of July 1, 2029. The Committee recognizes that this timeline differs from the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP)’s timeline for its new competency-based medical education model for certification. ACGME and Review Committee leadership are in communication with the ABP’s leadership to discuss options that would allow fellows starting in July 2028 to pursue a two-year pathway toward ABP certification, before the revised Program Requirements take effect.
The Review Committee is seeking a high level of community input throughout the revision process, including through a survey and a summit with representatives from pediatrics and pediatrics subspecialty organizations. Feedback from the survey and summit will guide requirement development. A draft of the proposed new Program Requirements is expected to be posted for public review and comment in late 2027, prior to finalization by the Review Committee and approval by the ACGME Board of Directors.

Guide to GME Development in Rural and Underserved Areas
The ACGME is pleased to announce the release of A Guide to GME Development in Rural and Underserved Areas, now available in the Rural and Underserved GME Resource Center on Learn at ACGME. (Note: A free account is required to access this content.)
Developed in collaboration with the Technical Assistance Center for HRSA's Rural Residency Planning and Development and Teaching Health Center grant programs, this practical guide is designed to help organizations navigate development and expansion of GME in rural and underserved communities.
The guide outlines three pathways for GME development:
- Develop a new Sponsoring Institution and a new residency or fellowship program
- Develop a new residency or fellowship program within an existing Sponsoring Institution
- Establish resident/fellow experiences in rural and underserved communities through an existing ACGME-accredited program, including development of Rural Track Programs

Topic: Establishing Resident Experiences in Medically Underserved Areas: A Program Perspective
In this webinar, participants will learn:
- how accredited programs can partner with rural and underserved sites to expand training opportunities;
- accreditation, operational, financial, and partnership considerations; and,
- practical strategies for developing successful collaborations that benefit residents/fellows, GME programs, and communities.
Many areas in the US face physician shortages, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Research demonstrates that where physicians complete their GME is a strong predictor of where they ultimately practice. Existing residency and fellowship programs play an important role in addressing physician workforce needs by establishing education and training experiences in rural and underserved settings.
1.25 CME credit hours will be available for this activity.

Institutional Coordinator Workshop
Announcing the dates for the fall 2026 Institutional Coordinator Workshop! Six virtual sessions led by ACGME staff and other GME leaders cover key topics like a year in the life of an institutional coordinator; the ACGME annual accreditation cycle; institutional accreditation and requirements; accreditation and recognition site visits; well-being in GME; ADS; and leadership.

Registration for Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment is now open for the October and November 2026 sessions.
This six-day course in Chicago, Illinois is highly interactive, using multiple learning approaches combined with systems thinking to help participants build effective programs of assessment for their residency or fellowship.
Participants will learn to:
- apply outcomes- and competency-based education principles in GME;
- strengthen assessment practices, tools, and decision-making quality;
