The ACGME's Back to Bedside initiative is designed to empower residents and fellows to develop transformative projects that foster meaning and joy in work and allow them to engage on a deeper level with what is at the heart of medicine: their patients.
This Back to Bedside funding cycle offers two options for applicants to consider:
- The Open Innovation option is intended to provide flexibility for novel proposals.
- The Project in a Box - Focused Innovation option offers residents and fellows from all specialties a successful project example to use as inspiration for further innovation.

These one-hour Zoom calls will take place on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. Central and are open to the entire GME community. During these sessions, participants will provide information about efforts in GME and MUA/P, solve for common challenges, and share helpful resources. GME institution and program leaders will connect with peers and ACGME representatives in breakout groups or discussion.

The Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award recognizes efforts to achieve diversity, equity, and inclusion in GME. The award recognizes ACGME-accredited Sponsoring Institutions and programs, and specialty and non-profit organizations working to diversify the underrepresented physician workforce and create inclusive workplaces that foster humane, civil, and equitable environments.

THURSDAY! Join the ACGME Clinician Educator Journal Club
The ACGME's new Clinician Educator Journal Club is a monthly online meeting on the third Thursday of each month gathering together current and future clinician educators, authors, and ACGME staff members to discuss the latest journal articles and timely topics in medical education.

ACGME Seeks Members for MUA/P Advisory Group
The ACGME seeks nominations of a resident/fellow and a senior clinical executive leader (e.g., chief executive officer, chief medical officer, chief nursing officer) for the MUA/P Advisory Group. This group provides consultation concerning implementation of the ACGME’s framework for MUA/P and GME.
The senior clinical executive leader will serve up to three years with the option of renewing for an additional three-year term. The resident/fellow will serve a two-year term. Self-nominations are accepted.

NEW! Radiation Oncology Holman Pathway Specialty Track Available
Radiation oncology programs now can identify Holman Pathway residents in the Resident Roster. In the "Residents" section of ADS, under "2. Resident Status," choose "Holman Pathway" as the Specialty Track for the applicable resident(s). The Case Log Report will reflect the Holman Pathway procedure minimum requirements for the selected resident(s). This change will be implemented April 25.

Institutional Staff Members to Offer Office Hours

Submit Input for Major Revision of Program Requirements for Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics
The Review Committees for Internal Medicine and Pediatrics are preparing for a major revision of the Program Requirements for combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics. In particular, the Review Committees invite comments related to specific Requirements or topics that should be addressed as the revised Requirements are developed. The current set of Requirements is available in the Internal Medicine and Pediatrics sections of the ACGME website.

Direct Observation Toolkit Online Workshop Sessions

Explore the ACGME’s Improving Assessment Using Direct Observation Toolkit with ACGME experts and toolkit authors. The toolkit offers faculty development curricula for institutions that can be adapted to local needs and provides individual faculty members with techniques that will help them become better educators. The toolkit is available at no cost to the GME community through the ACGME’s online learning portal, Learn at ACGME.
Shaping GME Major Program Requirement Revisions: Call for Comments
Every 10 years, Review Committees are required to review their specialty-specific Program Requirements to determine necessary revisions. The ACGME Board of Directors has approved a new process for all such major revisions going forward.
The process convenes specialty-specific writing groups, who, along with members of the specialty community and leaders from other specialties and related fields, rigorously and creatively consider what the specialty will look like in the future (recognizing that the future is marked with significant uncertainty). Out of this process, the writing group drafts and proposes revisions to the Program Requirements that will prepare learners for current and future practice.
